Coaches in Bulgaria are great. No, seriously, they really are.
If you want to travel between Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna, Veliko
Tarnovo, then coaches are your best option and very regular. Other
towns are also served, but may be less regular and slightly slower.
Sofia has a new, modern, large coach station next to the main railway
station (adjacent to the Princess Hotel). Inside there are kiosks
for all the various companies. Look for one that serves your destination
and book in advance.
As an example, in the summer of 2005, Margaret, Naomi and myself
travelled from Veliko Tarnovoto Sofia - it cost us 32 Leva and took
2.5 hours non-stop. The coach was very comfortable, with plenty
of leg-room (National Express take note!), and they had videos playing
on the overhead television.
